      Farewell to the Vandervelde Family

As Jackie Ribbe stated last night, one of the difficult things about living full-time at HoneyRock is having to say goodbye to loved ones. HoneyRock is a sending place, and last night we celebrated that God is sending the Vanderveldes to serve the Kingdom at another great ministry, LeaderTreks in Illinois. Dell and Duann prepared some delicious food, and afterwards memories and thanks were shared with the Vanderveldes. Here are some pictures from the event.

      Welcome to the new blog!

We are always excited to hear about how former staff, HoneyRock/Wheaton alumni, relatives, camper families, and friends stay connected to what is happening at HoneyRock through the blog. The blog is a very helpful communication tool, and we're excited about the improvements we're making in how we interact with the readers of this blog.

We hope that this blog will be easier to read and use, point you to our other channels better (as you can see on the left), let us communicate beyond the entries (through pictures and video, also on the left), and get feedback from you, our readers. Let us know what you think by commenting on this post!

As you can tell, all of the entries from our "old" blog at TypePad have already been imported into this "new" blog at Squarespace.

Thanks for visiting the new home of the blog. Stay tuned for the latest news and info from HoneyRock!

      Wheaton College Fall Break

      Liz Henderson--Program Team Asst.

Tonight over 100 Wheaton College students will arrive at HoneyRock for Fall Break Work/Play!  After an intense A-Quad at Wheaton, students can get a change of scenery, relax and have fun in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin.  Fall Break is always a high-energy weekend filled with great conversations, fun activities and service.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in HoneyRock activities on Saturday and Sunday, everything from mountain biking to climbing to waterskiing!  Saturday night will be Pumpkin Fest, an annual Fall Break tradition involving pumpkin carving competitions as well as a pumpkin seed cookoff.  On Monday students will do a variety of work projects around camp ranging from raking to splitting wood to putting away canoes and everything in between in order to prepare HoneyRock for the winter.

Please pray that this weekend would be a fun, relaxing, and refreshing time for the students and staff who are here.

      Transplanting Trees

Over the past two weeks, Don Kerns, Scott Eppler, John Vandervelde, and Kris Yoder have worked hard to transplant some trees from Black Bear to various areas around camp.  It's quite a labor-intensive process, but the men have had a lot of fun working together to bring new life to camp.  The trees have been placed on the road out to the Operations Complex (near the Barn) and also where the Pit and the Hogan used to be.  We hope you enjoy some pictures of the process and the new trees.

      Blast from the Past

HoneyRock is a sending place, and we take great delight in training and equipping people for service in Christ's Kingdom.  It is always a joy when those people return to us for a visit.  Elizabeth (Ebet) Roberts Morgan is here visiting HoneyRock with her husband, David.  Ebet did Vanguard in 1996, SLS in 1999, logistics in 2000, WLP in 2001, was a WLP trainer in 2002 and stayed on to be seasonal staff during some of the time in between.  This morning after staff devotions, Ebet shared with us about her experiences at HoneyRock and the things she learned here.  It was a blessing to hear about her love for the outdoors, adventure, people, and ministry.  She said that HoneyRock has always been a home for her and that it has been foundational in her spiritual growth and development.  After Ebet shared with us we had a chance to lay hands on her and David and pray for them.  We were so encouraged by her testimony this morning and are thankful for the way God has used HoneyRock in her life.
