Dorothy Chrouser
(December 18, 1912 - May 27, 2012)

HoneyRock mourns the loss of Dot Chrouser, 99, wife of Coach Harvey Chrouser and co-founder with him of HoneyRock in 1951.

Mrs. Chrouser was a 1934 graduate of Wheaton College and taught physical education at Sterling College in Kansas, Wheaton College, and Wheaton Christian Grammar School. She was deeply involved in the development of HoneyRock and made a special contribution to the girls' camp program. Without Coach and Dot Chrouser, there would be no HoneyRock.

Through our sadness, we rejoice in the legacy Coach and Dot left here on earth and are thankful that they now rest together in the arms of the Heavenly Father.

Camp Registration 2012 - Online Payment Methods

Summer is approaching quickly! HoneyRock is busily preparing for the arrival of campers as we draw closer to June. We are excited for what summer holds as registrations continue to be submitted on a daily basis. If you have registered your son/daughter for camp, you have already paid the $150 deposit to hold a spot. We'd like to take a moment and remind you that payment for the full balance of your account is due by May 15, 2012. 

Payment Methods

You can pay your balance by either cash, paper check, electronic check, or credit card. Please note that paying by electronic check can potentially save HoneyRock thousands of dollars in processing fees, which accrue for HoneyRock with each credit card transaction. We prefer electronic check over credit card for this reason. We realize that not everyone will be able to fulfill this request, but we greatly appreciate your understanding in regard to this matter. 

E-check is Safe

Your security and privacy are important to us. When paying with electronic check you will be asked to give some information similar to what you would give to pay with a paper check or credit card. All information is kept confidential and secure by our payment processor. 

We thank you for your patience and adaptability in working with our new online registration system! While we have yet to finesse the process, we hope that this has been a significant improvement in the registration process from years past. We're excited to see you this summer!

Online Camper Registration Now Online!

We are now accepting camper registrations for Summer 2012 on our new website: wheaton.edu/HoneyRock

If you have registered with HoneyRock in the past, you should have received an email prompting you to register with the email address we have in our system. Please do not open a new account unless you have never registered with HoneyRock before. This prevents us from having multiple entries in our system. (If you think you already have an account with us but aren't sure, please email our registrar.)

We hope you enjoy the conveniences of the new system and appreciate your patience as we iron out the kinks.

You may have noticed that we have not updated our blog in the last two months.  That is because it is no longer summer time here in the Northwoods--the leaves have fallen off the trees, Fall Break is over and there are actually snow flurries in the forecast.

We will begin updating the blog again in May once the college students have arrived for the summer.

Seeking HoneyRockers around the globe!

Every once in a while as I do my marketing guy duties, I check the reports from our various channels (our blog, facebook, website) to see how many people visit our sites and what interests them. One of the cool features on these reports is that they tell you where people access your site from. In addition to being read in homes all across the U.S., HoneyRock's media are also accessed from Germany, Indonesia, Brazil, Costa Rica and Bulgaria! 

For a while I've been wanting to do an "international shout out" to those looking at our facebook from places as far as Malaysia. So not only are we saying hello to you, Czech Republic HoneyRockers, we would really like to hear from all of you on how your time at HoneyRock helped prepare you for life and service "out there in the world" — from Amsterdam to Santo Domingo to Naperville, Illinois! We are especially interested in hearing from those who are serving in cross-cultural situations in the U.S. or abroad.  

We are trying to track down alumni who had significant experiences at HoneyRock while they attended Wheaton. We would really like to hear from you on how your time at HoneyRock helped prepare you for life and service "out there in the world". We are especially interested in hearing from those who are serving in cross-cultural situations in the U.S. or abroad.

We're Hiring!

Did you know HoneyRock has openings for the school year? We are looking to hire the following positions: 

1. Two Kitchen Assistants (November 28, 2011 – March 9, 2012): These positions are under the supervision of the Food Service Manager and work side by side with HoneyRock cooks to deliver hot, fresh, and desirable food.  Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, food preparation, cooking, baking, and cleaning. Must be able to lift at last 50 lbs, and follow directions well.  Experience in food service is desired but not mandatory. Must be at least 18 years old.  If you have any questions about these roles, talk to Dell Ledbetter. One or both of these positions may be extended until May 1st.

2. Ranch and Grounds Assistant (November 1, 2011 – March 9, 2012): Responsibilities will include assisting in the daily care of 20 horses, barn chores, leading trail rides, and assisting with sleigh rides.  Majority of the time will be spent outside, and previous riding experience is preferred, but not required. When not assisting with the barn program, this person will help with site and facility care including snow removal, winter activity area maintenance, and other general duties as well. 3. Housekeeping/Beehive Specialist (September 5, 2011 – August 17, 2012): Approximately 50 % of this position involves coordinating housekeeping and fulfilling housekeeping needs under the supervision of Dell Ledbetter, Hospitality Manager.  The remaining time will be involved in running the Beehive, working in the kitchen, assisting site/facilities, and fulfilling other projects as needed.  If you have any questions about this role talk to Dell Ledbetter.
