A cold day in the Northwoods

It was a cold day up in the Northwoods for June 4! That didn’t keep Isaiah from sailing, Ops crew from landscaping, or SLS counselors from climbing!

Ops Crew works on landscaping around the new HoneyRock Chapel

SLS counselors learn safety rules & requirements of climbing

For the next two weeks, SLS counselors will take a WIN class and participate in activities. Most afternoons they have the opportunity to work on their skills so that when campers arrive they are ready to teach alongside Activity Staff.

What do campers spend the most time doing in a day, besides sleeping? Come back tomorrow to find out!

      Welcome Back!

Welcome back to another summer at HoneyRock!

It’s an exciting time to be at camp: operations staff is busy readying the grounds, activity staff is prepping activity areas, and counselors just returned from their wilderness training trips.

An SLS unit prays before leaving on their 5 day wilderness trip

Training, however, is far from over – summer staff still has 3 weeks of training before our first campers run off the bus on June 24. Upon arrival, SLS (Summer Leadership School) counselors are trained in Bible study and teaching, development and specific needs of youth, camp and wilderness skills, water safety, first aid, and CPR. Want to learn more about the training our staff receives? Click here.

In the next three weeks before campers arrive, we hope to provide you a glimpse into what goes on in preparation for campers through regular updates, pictures, and stories of life at camp. It’s a busy time, but a time that’s exciting to follow!

Dyrness Memorial Chapel Renovation Groundbreaking Ceremony

On Friday afternoon we had the Dyrness Chapel Renovation Groundbreaking Ceremony.  It was a beautiful ceremony.  We are so thankful for the ways God was at work in the hearts of people in the Dyrness Memorial Chapel and we are looking forward to see the lives He will change in the renovated chapel!

      There are six photographs below.

Rob Ribbe began by welcoming everyone.  There were four guest speakers and then four people who prayed.

Then the groundbreaking was begun by Rob Ribbe, President Phil Ryken, Jason Bernard (Architect), Darren Rubo (General Contractor) and Bill Long (HoneyRock Construction Manager.)

Next the Senior Administrative Cabinet (SAC) of Wheaton College: Marilee Melvin, Mark Dillon, Stan Jones, Dale Kemp and Paul Chelsen.

After that the HoneyRock Community was invited to come and break some ground.  So you will see the Ribbe family.  And then Bill and Nancy Long.  And finally, the littlest groundbreaker--Charlie Welsh (son of John and Lauren Welsh--John is the Finance and Advancement Director of HoneyRock.)

Many thanks to Jonathan Heidengren for taking these lovely pictures!

      Bus to Wheaton

The bus departed this morning on time from HoneyRock. Due to a mechanical issue with the bus early on, the trip has been delayed slightly. The trip has now safely resumed. Our new ETA at Rockford is 3:35pm. We hope to arrive on the Whaton College campus between 4:45-5:15p.

      Little Red Wagon

After Banquet on the final Wednesday night of Residential Camp, all of the campers go out on the Chrouser Lawn and sing/chant "You can't ride in my little red wagon" back and forth (boys to girls) and jump around and generally have a great time.

Today is Family Day!  It's drizzling right now so we're hoping the weather clears up so we can have the Rodeo and the Ski Show!
