      Camper {E}Mail

While our session 1 Res and Advance campers returned home for the summer, we welcome session 2 Res campers this afternoon! Know that even though some of our campers have left, we are still praying for their transition home. Sometimes, it’s not easy transitioning to your “permanent community”. We have a few suggestions for trying to make that transition easier. Interested? Follow this link.

Looking forward to our next sessions, we wanted to make sure all of you know about our camper email option! These are one-way emails from you to your child during the camp session. It’s a really easy process to follow, and it will make your child’s day! We see so many smiles from these simple letters.

      Process:

      1. Log onto your online account via our registration portal.
      2. On My Account Dashboard page, click "View Itineraries"
      3. Click your camper's name for current registration (attending)
      4. On Registration Details page, click "Send Emails" to select a package and/or compose and send a one-way email.
      5. On Attendee Emails page, if you have not already selected one of the email packages, you may add one by following the above steps. You may also invite guests (family members) to send emails.

      Other Information:

      • You will not be emailing a HoneyRock email address.
      • Parents can view past emails sent to their children.
      • Clicking on "send an email" will allow you to compose and submit.
      • You may upgrade from any option at any time.
      • All of the emails sent from parents are collected at 12 o'clock midnight and printed the following morning. From there, the letters are delivered to the camper, usually reaching them after lunch or by dinner.

We also welcome snail mail and care packages! Take a minute and read our "Care Package Tips" for helpful information.

      Meet Isaiah: Sailing Instructor

Meet Isaiah, our Sailing Instructor! In the States, Isaiah calls Lancaster, PA home, but has lived in Dakar, Senegal for most of his life. He's pumped to be up at camp this summer for his third HoneyRock experience. After Isaiah participated in Passage, he knew that he wanted to spend more time in this place.

We asked Isaiah about his favorite part of working at HoneyRock, and he told us that apart from the community, he loves watching the mist over the quiet water in the early mornings before 5am.

Isaiah is at HoneyRock this summer after feeling a strong draw back to the place where he grew in Passage and counseled Advance Camp men. He says, "I know that this fits with the person God made me to be and my desire to bring people together in community...it all comes together to work well in this environment. I'm here to love and serve, all to the glory of God."

      On the Wolf River

Over the weekend Charlie and Ben, Activity Staff Coordinator and Canoeing Instructor, led a trip for those in SLS who had been working on canoeing and kayaking throughout training.

Charlie (Activity Staff Coordinator) surfs a wave on the Wolf River

After warming up with the basics, we walked the river to check out the various elements and review safety procedures. The section of the Wolf River that HoneyRock uses for these trips has a slight U-shape, which enables people to run the section at their own pace. With water flowing at nearly twice the normal level, there were new places to avoid and more spots to play and surf. We spent about three hours on the river, working on strokes, rolls, surfs, and braces, and then packed up to head home.

      Ben (Canoeing Instructor)

As a trip tradition, we debriefed the time we had on the river as we drove back to HoneyRock, talking about the highs and lows and how we saw God. The “lows” were primarily directed at the anxiety felt before getting on the river or the cloudy weather while the “highs” ranged from running the river without making a wet-exit to seeing confidence grow in the first-timers.

While reflecting upon how we saw God, Charlie pointed out the community that this small group of 13 made for the day. In our time at the river, we were able to come together to support and encourage, learn and teach. Throughout the day it was common to see one come alongside another and give a high-five or share a tip to make the next roll or brace better.

In the coming weeks, all Advance campers will go rafting on the Wolf and several Res campers will have the opportunity to work on their canoeing and kayaking skills for their award requirements. There will be many highs and lows, requirements passed and failed, lessons taught and learned - all a part of challenge that is naturally and purposefully infused into canoeing and kayaking. All in all, we are thankful for a challenging, fun, and safe trip to the Wolf and can't wait for campers to share in the experience!

Check back today as we update the blog (around 6pm) after campers arrive at HoneyRock with the details of their first afternoon!
